Zhangye Rainbow Danxia 七彩丹霞
The world-famous Rainbow Danxia is renowned for its vibrant colours and layered hills that resemble a giant natural palette. On the same visit we continue to Binggou Danxia, whose unique stone formations are often described as a natural sculpture museum. Zhangye also gives you the Pingshanhu Grand Canyon, often called the “Colorado Grand Canyon of the Silk Road,” and the Giant Buddha Temple, home to Asia’s largest indoor reclining Buddha and precious Western Xia relics. In the evening you can stroll Ganzhou Alley, a lively food street of Northwest Chinese delicacies.

Chaka Salt Lake 茶卡盐湖 (Mirror of the Sky)
Chaka Salt Lake, known as the “Mirror of the Sky,” reflects clouds and distant mountains across a vast salt flat, one of Qinghai’s most iconic landscapes. We time your visit for the changing light early and late in the day, though the perfect mirror depends on calm, dry, clear weather and cannot be guaranteed. This is the one night on the loop spent in a comfortable 4-star hotel, keeping you close to the lake.

Qinghai Lake 青海湖
Qinghai Lake is China’s largest inland saltwater lake, where blue waters, open grassland and distant mountains combine into magnificent high-plateau scenery. It sits at around 3,200m, and because we ease onto the plateau gradually, most travellers enjoy the vista in comfort.
青海湖是中国最大的内陆咸水湖，碧蓝湖水、辽阔草原与远山相互交织，构成壮丽的高原风光。此处海拔约 3,200 米，由于我们循序渐进适应高原，多数旅客都能舒适地饱览这片景致。
Kumbum Monastery (Ta’er) 塔尔寺
Kumbum, or Ta’er Monastery, is one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Here you admire its famous artistic treasures, the murals, butter sculptures and appliqué embroidery that have made it renowned across the plateau.

Qilian Mountain Grasslands 祁连山草原
Crossing from Zhangye towards Xining, the route runs through the scenic Qilian Mountain Grasslands, with views of snow-capped peaks, vast meadows and grazing yaks. The same day includes the remarkable Mati Temple Grottoes, famous for the Thirty-Three Heaven Grottoes carved into towering cliffs.
从张掖前往西宁途中，线路穿越风景秀丽的祁连山草原，雪山、草甸与悠然吃草的牦牛尽收眼底。同日还安排令人赞叹的马蹄寺石窟群，参观建于绝壁之上、闻名遐迩的”三十三天石窟”。
Tongren 同仁 Regong Thangka Art
Tongren is known as the hometown of Regong Art. You visit Longwu Monastery and Wutun Monastery, important centres of Tibetan Buddhist culture, and enjoy a hands-on Thangka painting experience of this UNESCO-recognised intangible heritage. Later, a visit to a local Tibetan family brings authentic hospitality and home cooking.

Maijishan Grottoes 麦积山石窟 & Lanzhou Yellow River 兰州黄河
Reached by high-speed rail from Tianshui, the Maijishan Grottoes are celebrated as the “Oriental Sculpture Gallery,” with cliffside grottoes, ancient Buddhist sculptures and dramatic hanging walkways. Back in Lanzhou, you stroll the Yellow River Scenic Line, taking in Zhongshan Bridge, the Yellow River Mother statue and Waterwheel Park.

Best time to visit the Qinghai-Gansu Grand Loop / 青甘大环线几月最好
For most travellers the sweet spot is roughly late May to early October, with a warm, popular peak in July and August. July brings the rapeseed flowers around Qinghai Lake into bloom; June and September are pleasant, less crowded shoulder months; and autumn (September to October) turns crisp and clear. Winter is cold and some high sites are limited.
对大多数旅客而言，青甘大环线的最佳出游期大致在五月下旬至十月上旬。七、八月是温暖而热门的旺季，七月青海湖畔油菜花盛开；六月与九月气候宜人、人潮较少，是理想的平季；秋季（九至十月）天高气爽、通透明亮。冬季寒冷，部分高海拔景点开放有限。
Month by month / 逐月建议
July and August are the plateau’s warmest, most vibrant months and also the busiest. This is when the rapeseed flowers ring Qinghai Lake (peaking in July), and when Chaka Salt Lake and the grasslands are at their most inviting. June and September sit either side as comfortable shoulder seasons with thinner crowds.
七月与八月是高原最温暖、最生机盎然的月份，同时也是最繁忙的时段。此时青海湖畔油菜花绽放（七月最盛），茶卡盐湖与草原风光最为迷人。六月与九月分列旺季两侧，是人潮较少、气候舒适的平季。
Zhangye’s Rainbow Danxia (七彩丹霞) shows its colours most vividly after rain and at sunset, so an overcast or late-afternoon visit can reward you with the deepest hues; summer into autumn is its busy season. Autumn across the loop (September to October) is crisp, clear and photogenic, while the depth of winter brings cold and limited access to some high-altitude sights.
张掖的【七彩丹霞】在雨后与日落时分色彩最为浓艳，因此阴天或傍晚造访往往能欣赏到最深邃的丹霞层次；由夏入秋是其旺季。全线的秋季（九至十月）天气清爽通透、宜于摄影；而隆冬时节则较为寒冷，部分高海拔景点开放受限。
Please note the Chaka Salt Lake “Sky Mirror” (茶卡盐湖 · 天空之镜) reflection depends on calm, clear, dry weather and is best early or late in the day; we time our visit for the best conditions, but the perfect mirror cannot be guaranteed.

How many days do you need for the Qinghai-Gansu Grand Loop? / 走青甘大环线需要几天？
Our flagship 11-Day In-Depth Gansu-Qinghai Loop covers the full circuit — Lanzhou, Zhangye’s Rainbow Danxia, the Qilian grasslands, Chaka Salt Lake, Qinghai Lake and Kumbum (Ta’er) Monastery — in eleven days. If you would rather go deeper into the Qinghai plateau (Kekexili, the Kunlun Pass, Qarhan Salt Lake and Kanbula), our 12 Days Qinghai In-Depth tour is the right fit.

When is the best month to go? / 几月去最好？
The loop is comfortable from roughly late May to early October. High summer (July to August) is warmest and most popular, June and September are pleasant shoulder months, and autumn is crisp and clear. Will I get altitude sickness? / 会有高原反应吗？
On the 11-day loop the altitudes stay moderate: Xining sits at about 2,261m, while Chaka Salt Lake and Qinghai Lake reach around 3,200m, and we ease onto the plateau gradually. The 12-day deep-Qinghai tour climbs higher, up to about 4,700m at the Kunlun Pass near Kekexili, and is likewise designed to acclimatise step by step. If you have heart or respiratory conditions, please consult your doctor before departure.

Do Singapore passport holders need a China visa? / 新加坡护照持有者需要中国签证吗？
No visa is needed if you hold an ordinary Singapore passport. Since 9 February 2024, Singapore and mainland China have a mutual 30-day visa-free arrangement for tourism, business, family visits and transit, and our tours run well within 30 days; travellers on other passports should check their own nationality’s entry rules. As Singapore’s dedicated China travel specialist since 1994, our team has handled China visas for more than 30 years and will guide you through every step. Please make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from the departure date.

When is the Chaka Sky Mirror at its best? / 茶卡”天空之镜”何时最美？
The mirror reflection depends on the weather, the wind and the water depth. It is best on calm, clear, dry days, early in the morning or late in the afternoon — conditions our guides time for, though they cannot be guaranteed.
镜面倒影取决于天气、风力与水深，以晴朗无风、干燥的清晨或傍晚最佳 — 我们的领队会尽量把握，惟难以保证。
The Grand Loop or the Silk Road — which should I pick? / 青甘大环线还是丝绸之路，该选哪一个？
Choose the Grand Loop if you want the classic Gansu-plus-Qinghai scenery, including Zhangye’s Rainbow Danxia, the Qilian grasslands, Chaka Salt Lake and Qinghai Lake. Choose our 12 Days Xi’an + Silk Road + Xinjiang tour instead if your heart is set on the Terracotta Warriors, Dunhuang’s Mogao Caves, Jiayuguan and the landscapes of Xinjiang — these are on the Silk Road route, not on the loop.
如果您想要经典的甘肃加青海风光，包括张掖七彩丹霞、祁连山草原、茶卡盐湖与青海湖，请选青甘大环线。如果您心中所系的是兵马俑、敦煌莫高窟、嘉峪关与新疆风光，则请选我们的【12天西安+丝绸之路+新疆豪华之旅】 — 这些景点位于丝绸之路线路，而非环线之上。
What is included in the fare? / 团费包含哪些项目？
The fare includes international round-trip airfare and airport taxes, an air-conditioned coach, twin-share hotels, the meals listed in the itinerary, all listed attraction tickets, an excellent Chinese-speaking guide and China tour group insurance. Not included are the China visa, the single-room supplement and personal expenses; airport tax and driver and guide tips are added per traveller at booking. Choose Trip B, our 12 Days Qinghai In-Depth, from S$2,568 per person. This route goes deeper and higher into the plateau, reaching Kekexili and the Kunlun Pass at around 4,700m, along with Qarhan Salt Lake and Kanbula National Forest Park. It is designed to climb gradually so your body acclimatises step by step, and it is a pure-touring itinerary with zero shopping, zero optional tours and zero hidden sales. This departure is set for 9 September 2026 and operates with a minimum of 10 passengers, so please confirm your place early.

If you are a Silk-Road and Xinjiang seeker / 如果您追寻丝路与新疆
Choose Trip C, our 12 Days Xi’an + Silk Road + Xinjiang, from S$3,388 per person. This is the classic Silk Road journey, running from Xi’an and the Terracotta Warriors west along the Hexi Corridor to Jiayuguan, the Mogao Caves and Mingsha Mountain at Dunhuang, then on to Turpan’s Flaming Mountains and Urumqi’s Tianshan Heavenly Lake, with high-speed rail between cities. Please note this route does not travel the Qinghai lakes loop. Per CET’s own trip guidance, the best time to go is spring (May to June) and autumn (September to October).
