China Express Travel (S) Pte Ltd (“China Express Travel”, “we”, “us” or “our”; UEN 199405859W) has been Singapore’s dedicated China travel specialist since 1994, and for more than 30 years has been entrusted with the personal information of the travellers we serve. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (the “PDPA”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, protect and retain your personal data when you enquire about, book or travel on our tours, or use our website at chinaexpress.com.sg.
By submitting an enquiry or a booking, or by otherwise providing your personal data to us, you consent to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal data as described in this Policy.
1. Personal data we collect
We collect the personal data that you provide to us, including:
- Identity and travel documents: your full name as shown in your passport, passport number, nationality, date of birth, passport issue and expiry dates, a copy or scan of your passport, and visa details;
- Contact details: telephone and mobile number, WhatsApp number, email address and mailing address;
- Booking and travel details: the tour selected, departure dates, room-sharing arrangements, and the names and details of other travellers in your party;
- Information needed to deliver your tour safely: dietary requirements, food allergies, relevant medical conditions or mobility needs, and emergency or next-of-kin contact details;
- Payment-related details: bank-transfer or PayNow remittance references. We do not collect or store credit-card or online-payment card data, as we do not accept online card payment;
- Website and technical data: when you use our website, your IP address and information collected through cookies and analytics.
Some of this data (such as passport, dietary or medical information) is necessary to issue tickets, apply for visas and arrange your tour. If you do not provide it, we may be unable to process your booking.
2. How we collect personal data
We collect personal data directly from you through our enquiry and booking forms, WhatsApp, telephone, email, and in person at our office. Where you make a booking for other travellers, you confirm that you are authorised to provide their personal data and that they consent to our use of it as described in this Policy. We also collect website data automatically through cookies and analytics (see section 6).
3. Purposes for which we use your personal data
We use your personal data to: respond to your enquiries and prepare quotations; make, confirm and manage your booking, including issuing air, rail, cruise and hotel reservations; apply for China visas on your behalf where requested; arrange travel insurance where requested; communicate trip logistics, itinerary updates and pre-departure information; process payments, reconcile bank transfers, and handle refunds and accounting; provide customer service and assistance, including in an emergency during travel; comply with our legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations; and send you marketing information, but only where you have consented (see section 7).
4. Disclosure of your personal data
To deliver the services you book, we disclose your personal data, only as necessary, to: airlines (for ticketing, passenger manifests and immigration or security requirements); hotels in China and the region; rail, charter-train and cruise operators; our ground operators, local tour handlers and guides in China; insurers, for travel-insurance arrangement and claims; banks and payment service providers, for settlement of bank transfers; government, immigration and visa authorities where required; and professional advisers and IT service providers who act on our behalf. We require these parties to protect your personal data and to use it only for the purposes for which it is disclosed.
5. Transfer of your personal data outside Singapore
Because your tour takes place outside Singapore, your personal data will be transferred to and processed in other countries, including the People’s Republic of China (for example, by our ground operators, hotels, rail and cruise operators and local guides), and any other country in which your services are delivered or your airline or insurer operates. Where we transfer your personal data overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient is bound by obligations to provide a standard of protection comparable to the PDPA, for example through our contractual arrangements with our suppliers. By proceeding with your booking, you consent to the transfer of your personal data to these recipients for the purposes set out in this Policy. Please note that data-protection laws in some destination countries may differ from, and may not be comparable to, those in Singapore.
6. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, remember your preferences and understand how visitors use the site. We may also use third-party analytics and advertising tools. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, although some features of the website may not function properly as a result.
7. Marketing communications and your choices
We will send you promotional information about our tours and offers only where you have consented to receive it, through channels such as email, WhatsApp, SMS or telephone. You may withdraw your consent or opt out of marketing communications at any time by contacting us using the details in section 12, or by using the opt-out facility provided in the relevant message. We will action your request within a reasonable time, and we comply with the Do Not Call provisions of the PDPA.
8. Protection of your personal data
We make reasonable security arrangements to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disposal, including restricting access to staff who require it and storing travel documents securely. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Retention of your personal data
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including to serve your booking and to meet our legal, accounting, tax, insurance and regulatory obligations. When your personal data is no longer required, we will take reasonable steps to securely dispose of or anonymise it.
10. Your rights
Under the PDPA, you may: request access to the personal data we hold about you and information about how it has been used or disclosed in the past year; request that we correct any error or omission in your personal data (it is important that your passport details are accurate); and withdraw your consent to our use of your personal data, on reasonable notice. If you withdraw consent, we may be unable to continue providing our services to you, and we will inform you of the likely consequences. To make a request, please contact our Data Protection Officer using the details in section 12. We may charge a reasonable fee for an access request and will respond within the time required by law.
11. Personal data of minors
Where a tour includes travellers who are minors, their personal data is provided by, and collected with the consent of, a parent or guardian. The adult making the booking confirms that they are authorised to provide that data.
