Best time to visit Inner Mongolia / 最佳旅游季节
Autumn is the signature season: the Ejina Populus euphratica (poplar) forest turns brilliant gold and usually peaks from early to mid October, making it the top reason many travellers plan their trip around this window. Summer is the other favourite, when the grasslands of Hulunbuir, Ulan Butong and Xilingol are lush and green and the desert lakes are at their most inviting. Spring and late autumn are quieter and cooler, so pack warm layers as northern temperatures drop quickly.

Ejina Populus euphratica Forest / 额济纳胡杨林
The world-famous golden poplars of Ejina are the highlight of any autumn trip to Inner Mongolia, glowing gold against blue desert skies. The colour peaks from early to mid October, so timing your visit well is everything. It is the centrepiece of our 12-day tour.

The great grasslands: Hulunbuir, Ulan Butong, Xilingol / 大草原：呼伦贝尔·乌兰布统·锡林郭勒
Inner Mongolia’s grasslands stretch to the horizon and are greenest in summer. Hulunbuir, Ulan Butong and Xilingol (Xilamuren) are among the most celebrated, ideal for photography, horse-riding and staying in a yurt. They capture the open, free spirit of the steppe.

The Badain Jaran and Tengger deserts are known for their “singing sands” and surprising desert lakes tucked between towering dunes. Mongolian culture is part of the experience: staying in a ger (yurt), trying horse-riding, and sharing hearty mutton hotpot and milk tea. The Naadam spirit of horsemanship and celebration runs through it all. It is culture you take part in, not just watch.

Hohhot, the regional capital, is the usual gateway to the grasslands. Arxan National Forest Park, nicknamed “China’s Little Switzerland”, is loved for its volcanic crater lakes, while the region’s Genghis Khan heritage adds a deep layer of history. Together they round out a full picture of Inner Mongolia.

Do Singaporeans need a China visa? / 新加坡人去中国需要签证吗？
No. Since 9 February 2024, Singapore ordinary-passport holders enjoy 30-day mutual visa-free entry to China, which comfortably covers this multi-day tour. Travellers on other passports, for example a Singapore PR holding a foreign passport, should check the rules for their own nationality before travelling.

When is the best time to go? / 什么时候去最好？
Autumn is best for the golden Ejina poplars, which peak from early to mid October. Summer is ideal for green grasslands. Choose your season based on the scenery you most want to see.

How physically demanding is the trip? Is there much walking? / 行程的体力要求高吗？步行多吗？
The trip is comfortable and mostly coach-based, with gentle walking at scenic spots and some time on unpaved desert or grassland ground. There is a scenic SUV desert crossing rather than long hikes. Travellers with a reasonable level of everyday fitness can enjoy it.
